CAREER DIRECTIONS

Freelancer

I want to be a freelancer because i think when i graduated, that would be a great opportnity to get links and channels as acquitances, so when i start my own business, i already have a lot of option to join as partner. The other reasons are i will not get bored with the routine of work on my desk and got more ideas because i have to active as a freelancer.

Business Start-Up

After i have enough experience and contacts, i want to start my own business, especially in design. I do not want what I have learned in college will be useless, i want to use it when i’m working. So I would work with the heart and not money oriented (although we need money). Another reason is i want to create jobs for people. 

Educational

Some people often underestimate teachers, whereas if there are no teachers, then no education. After I graduated from college and working successfully, I want to open a studio/art/design school. I want to share what I learned in college to others, because when we share something, we will get something. Especially talented children who can not continue their hobby in art and learn the other things because the parents are still doubting the future career of an artist/designer. I would like to set up a school that will be graduating students who are gifted and showing people that the artist also has a bright future. (Of course, build a school after my own business success).

CAREER DREAMS

First thing came up when i heard career is photographer. I want to be a professional photographer with a special characteristic of system and result each photo. Second career is graphic designer. Firstly i am not really sure, but after some projects and research, i think i love branding more than the others. The third is i want to have a cafe join with my sister because she is a interior designer, we will do our job (graphic + interior) and mixing them become unique and conceptful cafe. 

CAREER PLAN

My first career plan after graduated from college is freelancer. Freelancer could be a good opportunity for me as a young designer to get more links and experiences. I also will not get bored because of the routine everyday. My goals for being a freelancer is me and the staffs can work together as a team and the companies more succesful because i am as a designer.

I also want to have my own business but after i thought i have enough experiences and links. I will start by join with other people (because i think a designer have to work in a team, not alone) and came up with something that when people see it people know that is by my company. The goals are my company will grow and become a big company and create a job for people.

About the education, i want to build a school after my company success. It because there are so many people (parents) underestimate designer’s future career. I want to prove to those people that designer/artist has a bright future career, and the example is my company, that is why my company must success before i build the school.

I have experience in social term that brought me to communicate / work effectively with others. I can use this experience as a capital to apply for job as a designer (designers will work as a group). I can apply for jobs because i have skills (maybe neatness, mixed media, research, good time management, or communication), but skill in college would not enough because age continues grow, so we need to keep up to date to the new things, new styles, new materials, new medias, and new applications.

On time, nowadays people do not really appreciate others people time. Curiosity, not every people want to know something new. Open minded for opinion, not every people like to get a criticts. On time, curiousity, and open minded are my strength to achieve my career plan over my competitors.

We have to be a humble person. We can start the business by accepting order from family members, it can help much because we will get ‘free promotion‘ when they talk to other people about the things we did. Social media is one of the easiest way to get attention because nowadays people lazy to come directly to the company, they better search and look the portfolio on internet, it also will make our time effisien. Exhibition of our works is an effective ways to get clients fastly because they look at our portfolio directly.
As a designer i also need some important things such as stationeries laptop, internet, reference books, wacom, printer, digital printings, and also portfolio.

Conclusion of my career plan is i want to get a lot of links and experiences before i start my own business, after my own business success i want to build a school for talented children and prove to people designers have a bright future career too and no more underestimate. I have to more explore in many things, especially in typography and layout. Before we start a business we have to prepare all things including commitment, as a designer i have to commit to work hard, appreciate people’s time, humble, good communication and keep learning from other people critics.


PROMOTION TOOLS

Social Media

Nowadays, social media has a big contribution in promoting things or services. I want to use some social media to promote me as a graphic designer, such as : Facebook, Website or Blog,  Instagram, and other social media that most people use.

Portfolio, etc

Portfolio book or online are first capital of graphic designer- must have! But i think about other things, i want to print my logo and contact in a pen and also notebook with some design quotes in it and give it to people. So my promotion tool can be useful for those people and 

hire me.

Acquitance

We have to know that acquitance has power to promote us. Sometimes people just share the their story or experience, but if we have good design, quality and service, people will talk about us. And when they want to make something, they will choose us as their partner.

FEEDBACK

• Maybe the portfolio strength can add ‘good in handicraft‘.
• Need more exploration in selection of typefaces.
• Better to be the best one than good ‘enough’ at all (depends on target), can called as know target audience.
• Pay more attention in terms of hierarchy.
• Need more exploration in layout setting.
• Do not only as the young designer, you should be a young talented designer.
• There are so many people better than you and so many people worse than you, if you want to be the best, it will not happen.
