Re-branding City 2nd - LOMBOK (Logo, Stationary, Signage Board)

LOGO


Logo is the most powerful in campaign. logo should be able to describe how look and feel the city and can attract people who see it. I have search some logos of lombok that exist before. According to the moodboard and mindmap before, i sketched some logos.




MR. ANGGA : Don't focus on traditional only, even though that is your keyword, it must balance between your 3 keywords. Add some virgin and exotic environment.

Then i chose this logo. 

I have research about pattern of LOMBOK, because when i was in Lombok, every tour always goes to 'Desa Sade' a place that women produce fabric with special pattern, handmade and they produce it hereditary. I tried to make it by my self because there is no photo of that pattern :( I saw it and draw itmanually, and then i made them in illustrator. 


I chose the second one pattern because their traditional fabric is knitted and this pattern looks like the fabric motive. i made two kinds of pattern, first is with red plus in the middle (for white background) and second is white plus in the middle (for red background). I used four colours, white, red, blue, and yellow. White is symbolise of virginity of lombok as my keyword before. Red is symbolise of courageous. Blue is symbolise of sea or beach, because lombok is small island, so beach is around the island. Yellow is symbolise of cheerful and happiness. 


Next step is thinking about tagline! little and simple word but can bring huge effect -_- i have some tag lines, such as : memorable, virgin, full of cultural heritage, love at first sight, paradise, heritage, unforgetable, wonderful, adorable, exotic, unique, second heaven, hidden heaven, paradise, beautiful.

Unforgetable tagline is as suggestion for tourist to make LOMBOK is an unforgetable place.



i tried some typefaces, but still awkward. i chose script to make it looks elegant (exotic) because the LOMBOK is sans serif and bold enough.

BUSINESS CARD

i sketched some business cards with different shapes and layouts. 

two side, on the front is logo and information. on back side is full of pattern.
One side, landscape, logo and information on the front, with die cut shape of pattern on the right side.

i imagine this business card would be so full of information, you can open it. Logo and information on the first page, and full pattern on last page. with photos of lombok on page 2 and 3 (if you open it). but i think this is too crowded.
when i made this business card, i remember Mr. Angga Said, "dont ever think emmm standart size is... standart shape is.... standard blablabla". Then okay i tried to make it.
One side, abnormal size, simple, handy, logo on the front, and information on the back with pattern only on the corner. And the corner will be hook cut. Still large and eye catching.

For print these business cards, i chose via felt paper because the paper full of texture (for support the pattern) and make it more exclusive, not only matte paper or art carton.

About envelope and letterhead i still put the element, i want to put them in every product (such a trademark of LOMBOK). I put the logo on the front and the informationon the back to make like not really arrogant to promote LOMBOK self, but when they open it, they have to see it. for this product i put the pattern inside the envelope, i thought it will make the envelope became elegant and special. Letterhead, i don’t think can explore too much on this part because if i design extreme, it will not really functional. For all stationary, i used VIA VELT paper, just different gsm. i chose via velt because i texture, i remembered when Surya Palace came to UIC, they said it would be great if you use texture paper for patterm, fabric image. i printed them at I.Litho ptinting.

 Next assignment is make a signage. i don’t really understand about this part because signage with LOMBOK’s logo is just like welcome signage. I imagine one for outdoor, one for indoor, and one on the street, airport i think. Onr for out door i made a Sasak House with “Selamat datang di pulau LOMBOK“ and i used Bahasa because it is in Indonesia, we should proud and use Bahasa and people no need to under- stand the sentence because if they see the logo, i thought they must be understand that “welcome to” is the sentence.
For in door i imagine this made from acrylic so it will clear, with red as the top stick and just rectangle to make it simple. Another one is pretty simple, but still with pattern element and sasak house shape. just one pole. And i made them all like this :

Re-branding City 1st - LOMBOK (introduction)

For the second meeting, Mr. Angga gave us assignment cover sheet. This asssignment will be final project too. Honestly sometimes i think i will get bored if the assignment from the beginning of term till the end of term, but sometimes i think this project is a big project and will teach me much of new things. SO, i hope i can do my best  o:)

The project is re-branding a city that we chose. The option is : Bangka Belitung, Bukit Tinggi, Palembang, Medan, Jakarta, Malang, Jogjakarta, Solo, Karimun Jawa, Bandung, Manado, Tana Toraja, Makassar, Samarinda, Pontianak, Balikpapan, Bali, Lombok, Pulau Komodo, Raja Ampat. Then i chose LOMBOK because i have gone to LOMBOK when i was 8 y.o. i think, so i have little bit feel of that city. i chose it because i love beach, and to challenge my self to promote LOMBOK VS bali  (who doesnt know bali, huh?)

we were brainstorming together in class with Selly, Kezia, Marsha, Yasmin, and Mr. Angga.

First step, i search everything about LOMBOK. i got so much :/ But i can tell you like this ; LOMBOK is a small island in west Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is roughly circular, with a 'tail' to southwest, about 70km across and a total area of about 4.725 km2. The provincial capital and largest city is Mataram. Mostly they are Moslem, and some of them are Hindus, and the others are varied. They are very friendly and welcome to tourist or foreign people, but they are still maintain their culture and heritage. In lombok, there are some villages which contain traditional houses with people who produce traditional fabric, traditional vase, etc. Every tourist must visit that village. One of them is Desa Sade. Everyday they wears traditional clothes, especially when they are knitting traditional fabric. They also have traditional transport, called Cidomo. Most popular of LOMBOK is their culinary, such as ayam taliwang, Sate rambige, Sate Bulayak, Nasi Sukaraja, etc which all of them are spicy (like the name, LOMBOK is chili). They have 2 famous ceremony, which Peresean (ceremony to fight between man to show their brave and how much the man bleeding, that much they will get rain) and Kawin Lari (a man who marriage his girl friend without parents's permission, this will show the man is so brave).

Second step, i have to make a mind map. (upload soon)

Third step, make a moodboard. i have to think 3 keywords that describe look and feel in LOMBOK, and can attract tourist. My keywords are Virgin, Exotic, and Traditional. Virgin because LOMBOK is not like other island that too crowded, LOMBOK still virgin and we can feel it by the landscape and air. I think every beach must be exotic, but every beach has its own charm. Traditional because LOMBOK always keep they culture that make traditional is so match with LOMBOK.

First Meeting - Exercise

On first meeting of ideas generation class, Mr. Angga gave us some introduction about how to generate ideas and exercise.


  • How to generate idea?

  • Alex F. Osborn's Method :

- Focus on quantity, this rule is a means of enchancing divergent production, aiming to facilitate problem solving through the maxim quantity the assumption is that the greater the number of ideas generated, greater the chance of producing a radical and effective solution.
- With hold critism in brainstorming critism of generated should be put on hold instead, participants should focus on extending or adding to ideas, reserving critism for a later critical stages of the process by suspending judgement participant will feel free to generate unusual ideas.
- Welcome unusual ideas, to get a good and long list of ideas, unusual ideas are welcomed. They can be generated by looking from new perspective as suspending assumptions. These new ways of thinking may provide better solutions.
- Combine and improve ideas. Good ideas may be combined to form a single better good idea. As suggested by the slogan " 1 + 1 = 3 " it's believed to stimulate the building of ideas by a process of association.

Coca cola is trying to make a new campaign for their new product (flavoured cola)

Each of us draw some bottles of product. I imagine the flavour is lime. then i made the shape like lemon fruit (glass bottle), the second one is like laboratories bottle with the ingredient in it, the third is bottle with a hole in the middle and the hole is shape of lemon, it will grab easily.

After we made some sketches, we discused and we decided to make flavored series, but every can is two mix flavours, such as lime and avocado in a can. It wil make people wait for the next mix flavour because if only 'lime', people can expect how it taste "just lime plus soda". Then we made the product (can) first, i think after we have the concept and design of can, it will help us to make another campaign stuffs. I imagine the colour of the can is yellow, green, with bubbles. 

The story is...
One day there is a man who sell coca cola (original) in festival, he is tired but untill afternoon no one buy his cola. He decided to take a break and sit under a tree. Suddenly a lime and an avocado fall down with sparkles on them. The man just ignore it and put the fruit on the top of cola can, but the fruits was gone onto the can. All of his cans are jumping and sounds like "twist me twist me" from insode the can. Then he twist the can, suddenly yhe can and that man's costume was change (became the mascot), the can all change from original cola became twist cola. Everyone look at him and buy all colas.
